Artur Kroschel

Composer, pedagogue, founder of contemporary music ensemble Sepia Ensemble. Written for various instrumental lineups, Kroschel’s oeuvre distinguishes itself by its tremendous sensibility to sound, experiments in new consonances and performing techniques, and profound concentration. Kroschel’s compositions adamantly avoid extra-musical associations, although their sound clearly refers to Lachenmann’s aesthetics. The structure of his works is based on the original technique of “disrupted beginning”, which introduces condensed sound material in the early stage of the work, and then proceeds to gradually reduce it.
