Benedykt Konowalski

(*1928)

Warsaw-based conductor and composer. Active for nearly sixty years, Konowalski has written choral works and over two hundred instrumental compositions, including symphonies, oratories, as well as chamber and concert pieces. His oeuvre is an aesthetic kaleidoscope which extends from modernism to contemporary music. Konowalski’s works are deeply rooted in tradition, both in terms of their deliberate stylistic references and with regard to the folkloristic inspirations discernible in the sound matter. (AM)
