Jerzy Maksymiuk

(*1936)

Conductor, pianist and composer. Although he made his reputation as a conductor, Maksymiuk’s first degree was in composition. His works are a mixture of simple interval motifs with 20th century composing techniques such as twelve-tone technique or aleatorism. An eminent conductor, Maksymiuk displays a particular sensitivity to the timbre of the orchestra. While a number of his compositions radiate with characteristic energy, his oeuvre is also palpably reflexive and contemplative. (KS)
