Joanna Woźny

(*1973)

Composer. Woźny’s oeuvre exists in the twilight, along the edge of audibility, addressing the listener with subtle whispers. Starting from imagined sound quality, she then strives to achieve it using instruments, turning to extensive performing techniques which sometimes balance on the verge of physical capacities of musicians and instruments. To arrive at a given sound, she follows set parameters such as the speed, volume or technique of sound extraction; by modifying these variables, Woźny allows her pieces to grow and move from one tone to another.
