Justė Janulytė

(*1982)

Lithuanian composer. She describes her own music as monochromatic, which comes from the peculiar types of scoring she calls for in her works, made up of like-sounding instruments. In the uniform sound, very slow tempos, hypnotising pulsations and extremely limited expressive devices, the composer makes references to the minimalistic ideas. The focus of her especial attention is the colour and subtle changes of volume, and the perception of time in music. The music she writes stems from her personal observations of nature, and of acoustic and optical phenomena. (EC)
