Oleksandr Szymko

Ukrainian composer, pianist and organiser of musical events. He writes solo instrumental music, especially for piano, as well as chamber and orchestral compositions. He uses traditional forms, e.g. symphonies and instrumental concertos (frequently attached with poetic titles). He has also composed music for a number of theatre plays and films. His orchestral compositions are characterised by strong emotionality highlighted by tuneful, Romantic melodies and numerous climaxes, but his solo and chamber works draw on minimalist aesthetics. (EC)
