Piotr Moss
(*1949)
Composer. An outstanding instrumentalist, he boldly juxtaposes instrumental sounds, endowing his pieces – especially those written for orchestra – with multifarious timbres and shades. His frequent references to extra-musical inspirations, including painting, should come as no surprise. Despite his thoroughly contemporary language, Moss’s sensitivity is profoundly Romantic, as he has never abandoned traditionally defined melody. Moss’s works include a great deal of lyricism and contemplation while also retaining a degree of drama and impetuous expression. (KS)
