Szabolcs Esztényi
(*1939)
Composer, pianist, pedagogue and improviser of Hungarian origin. His relations with Poland began in the 1960s. Esztényi places particular emphasis on improvisation and its instillattion and propagation as the crucial aspect of composing activity. As a pianist he has often appeared in the world premieres of works written by Polish composers, and helped restore the music of Tomasz Sikorski to stages. Dominated by piano compositions, Esztényi’s own music focuses on the timbre and passing of sounds, and remains mostly contemplative and deeply personal on account of its links with the composer’s experience.
