Tomasz Stańko

(*1942)

Jazz trumpeter and composer, leading representative of free jazz. Stańko’s music is universal, as he combines emotional depth and intense sound with Slavic lyricism and melancholia, nimbly balancing between the polar opposites of expressive qualities. Stańko’s discography includes several dozen recordings; he has also written for film and theater. (AM)
