On 7 March 2016, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage published the results of an open call for the 5th edition of the Composing Commissions Priority within the Ministry’s Collections Programme. The project is implemented by the Institute of Music and Dance (IMiT).

The Ministry selected 59 projects worth a total of PLN 2 million for the programme. Since the project’s budget is PLN 2 million, and the total value of requested subsidies exceeds PLN 10.5 million, the selection commission decided unanimously that if a composer’s name appears on the list of submissions more than once, the commission will recommend only one application from that composer – the one with the highest point score. A full list of applications (approved, rejected, or disqualified for formal reasons) is available on the Ministry website under the tab “Programy Ministra 2016 – Kolekcje – Zamówienia kompozytorskie” and on the IMiT website under the tab “Programy – Programy ministra – Zamówienia kompozytorskie 2016-2017”.

If an application was denied funding but received 50 points or more in the evaluation process, the applicant may appeal the decision via the EBOI system (https://esp.mkidn.gov.pl/) by 17 March 2016.

The Composing Commissions priority was launched by the Ministry on 8 October 2015. It aims to support the creation and first performances of new works of music, to promote and make them available to the public, and to use them as a cultural and artistic education tool. So far, the programme’s four editions have resulted in the commissioning of 372 new pieces of music from 235 Polish or foreign composers.
