Grzegorz Majka

Composer, music theorist and conductor. In his creative dialogue with tradition, Majka evokes such composers as Guillame de Machaut, Josquin dés Prés, György Ligeti or Bogusław Schaeffer. He interlaces tonal harmonics with elements of sonorism, and develops Schönberg’s idea of the Klangfarbenmelodie. Majka’s chamber and solo works are imbued with references to the Second Viennese School, while his monumental vocal and instrumental works are informed by the aesthetics of late Romanticism. (EC)
