Krzysztof Meyer

(*1943)

Composer, pianist, music theoretician and pedagogue. His works are founded on a range of 20th century composing techniques, which he intertwines with such classical genres as the quartet or the symphony. Despite using diverse means of expression, Meyer’s compositions are unified by carefully scaled dramatic tension. Equally essential to his music is its formal background, frequently derived from simple sound cells. Meyer’s pieces  are also informed by extra-musical programmatic elements which attribute them with a deeply humanistic dimension. (KS)
